I already know which CPUs are supported. my question is if I plug a 4th gen Ryzen 5 in, Something I have seen HP prebuilts ship with. Will it still boot up and recognize the CPU? I can save a bunch of money doing it like that. The CPU in question is the Ryzen 5 4600g. My board is the Erika 89D8. I already have a 5600g. I just want to know if it works with the 5th gen and supports the 3rd gen, why not the 4th? Because it is a B550A. Essentially a B450 with PCIe 4.0.

Has anyone done this with 4th gen and it worked? If it needs a BIOS update how do I go about doing it?

This is the CPU: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-4600G-12-Thread-Unlocked-Processor/dp/B09Z5NH6SJ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3TVEJ8UZ...

Hi @Tan971

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Why do you want to do a 4600G if you have a 5600G?

The MB socket supports a 4600G but HP has to include support for the 4600G in the BIOS.

HP generally does not add additional CPU support in consumer PC BIOS updates.

This HP Site has the latest BIOS update for your MB. The "Fixes" don't include additional CPU support.

I have no idea if this BIOS update will support a 4600G.

The reason I want to go to the 4th gen is because I am case-swapping. So I want to get everything over to a new board and give this PC to my brother who only plays esports titles. if 4th gen works on it I can go ahead and keep my 5th gen. He has a 2nd gen now so this will be an upgrade for him and there are some crazy deals out there.

Hi @Tan971

Try the 4600G in the HP MB if you already have it.

Amazon is now listing the 5600G @ $124.00. $25.00 more then the 4600G. You would not have to swap CPUs if you buy the 5600G for your new MB.

Let the Forum know how the case swap goes.
