Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G, which is a variant of the Ryzen 5 2400G, listed as an officially supported processor for the HP Sunflower motherboard. I would like to know if the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G is, by extension, also supported by the HP Sunflower motherboard.

@junipersz,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP Sunflower motherboard (SSID: 8433), according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05939208, supports the following processors as per HP:

Let's assume for a moment that your motherboard is part of this PC: an HP Pavilion 690-0020 Gaming Desktop PC (3LA92AA), which happens to be fitted with the Sunflower motherboard: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05970262.

Now let's move on with regard to your question, is the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G compatible with your motherboard.  When you look at HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-00xx Users here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-Pavilion-Gaming-Desktop-690-00xx/87753 (look for the Ryzen processor models), there are no rigs fitted with any of the "PRO" processors -never an encouraging sign.

Then I looked at processor cross-compatibility given HP supported Ryzen processors:

NonSequitur777_2-1671594310339.png

And what we can derive from this, are very low compatibility percentages (28% & 32% respectively, even a 16%) for the "PRO" processor models.

In my experience, HP motherboards make up the 72% and 68% -and 84% of the non-compatible motherboards -well, close to it.

Therefore, I am reasonably confident to state, that -unfortunately, the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G processor appears to be not compatible with the HP Sunflower motherboard.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Greetings, I have a HP 590-P0019. It has a HP Sunflower motherboard. I have purchased a 2400G of eBay. It came to me, but I have opened the package and saw the Pro branding. Fortunately, I have done the swap and the machine booted. I had to reset the CMOS, then the machine gave a POST. Here is a picture from the BIOS page showing the CPU Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G. Hope you find this helpful and will do the upgrade.

Edit: I do have have the BIOS updated to F.55, I have checked the update from HP. It doesn't seem to have more CPU support.

@bossale,

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback: you have shown that an AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G is indeed compatible with the Sunflower motherboard!

Thank you for trying it out and adding your comments in this thread.

Kind Regards,
