I have an hp pavilion 690-0073w and I tried setting up an SAS hdd, I have all the right cables and when I connect them to the SAS hdd, the SAS hdd shows a green light (I'm assuming that it works), however the SAS hdd doesn't show up on the disk management in windows 10. Does anybody know how to fix that? Is it because the motherboard I have isn't compatible?(I have a 843b lincs motherboard)

@Idk34 -- LOL
Power-off your computer, disconnect the AC power-cord, and hold-down the ON/OFF button for a few seconds, to "drain" any residual electric power.
Then, physically remove your "M.2" device, and reconnect the AC cord, and enter BIOS SETUP.
Is the SAS device now detected?

@Idk34 -- after physically removing the "M.2" memory-stick from its socket on the motherboard, enter BIOS SETUP.
Is the SAS device now detected?
What is the storage capacity of the SAS HDD? 250 GB? Is that the same capacity as the "M.2" device?

No, it was still not detected. The SAS drive is 1tb, the ssd is 256gb. It probably has to do with the motherboard and the cable, also the hdd is on even if I don't connect the blue part to the motherboard.
I'm not sure though

@Idk34 -- the HDD is on even if I don't connect the blue part to the motherboard.
Correct. The coloured wires supply power to the HDD, while the blue-coloured cable is the "data" connection to the motherboard. That "blue" colour needs to be connected to the motherboard, so that that the drive is listed within the BIOS SETUP menu.
Do you have access to another computer/motherboard, where you can experimentally connect the SAS drive to that computer, to see if that other motherboard detects the SAS device?
