I need a driver for SD-MS-xD card reader compatible with Windows 11

@Filippopune, Thanks for the screenshot — that helps a lot!

 

I can see the PCI Simple Communications Controller is missing its driver, which could be linked to your chipset and may affect how the card reader works. Also, while the Alcor Micro USB 2.0 Card Reader shows up, it might not be fully functional without the proper driver.

 

Here’s what I’d suggest:

Go to HP support site, enter your device model, and download the latest chipset and card reader drivers (Windows 10 ones usually work fine on Windows 11 in most cases).

In Device Manager, right-click the card reader > Update driver > Search automatically.

Also check Windows Update > Optional updates — sometimes drivers show up there too.

 

If the card reader still doesn't respond after this, let me know your exact model number, and I’ll dig a little deeper for you!

I do not want to install a driver found randomly on the internet without proper recommendations.

Even if HP doesn’t list a specific driver for your SD-MS-xD card reader on Windows 11, sometimes Windows itself includes generic drivers that can make it work. Let’s do a quick check:

 

Try This First:

Device Manager → Open it (Win + X > Device Manager).

Look under “Memory technology devices” or “Universal Serial Bus controllers”.

If you see the card reader listed, right-click > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.

Also, check Windows Update for any optional driver updates (Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional updates).

What is the exact model number of your HP device?

Does the card reader appear at all in Device Manager (even with a yellow warning)?
