Hi
I am having a severe problem trying to install Ubuntu on the SSD drive of my new HP.
The desktop was delivered with just FreeDos. The SDD and HDD drives are detected in Legacy mode, according to the BIOS. I did all what people told me to do (remove secure boot etc) but basically:
- when I try to install Ubuntu 18.04 (latest, with Kubuntu installed via ISO on a USB stick) Ubuntu does NOT detect the SDD hence can only be installed on the HDD.
If anyone has a way forward... I tried to upgrade my BIOS (dating July 2018, new one being Nov 2018) but the executable to update it on the HP site is only for Windows... Does not work on DOS or Linux.
I have tried the Ubuntu forum and they have been super helpful but not luck. So I hope someone here can help because I am getting quite desesperate and am thinking of returning the whole machine.. Not good.
Thanks for any tips you may have!

Sorry but just to close this one: after spending the full weekend trying to make it work with some advice from experts (forums etc) I decided to just send the full thing back. And buy a different brand which is more OS-Linux compatible.
Also a note: on the HP site I wanted to try to update the BIOS. But the only executable is a Windows compatible one. No DOS, no Linux. Maybe a sign for Linux users.
Apologies for the negative tone, but spending so many hours on such a nice piece of hardware, that's not what I expected... 🙂
All the best
