UPGRADE SSD CARD FROM 256Gb to 1Tb:

My computer have a 256 Gb SSD card for C disk (including recovery boot)

I want to know if it is possible to upgrade this SSD card (in fact replace) by a 1Tb SSD card, and if yes, what model I need to buy?

And, in addition to this question is how to migrate all data presently on my 256 Gb card to the new 1Tb SSD card?

This needs is also a pre-requisit for mignation to Windows 11

Many thank for your help

Yes, you can replace the 256 Go NVMe SSD to one that is 1 To in storage capacity.

If you want to transfer the 256 Go drive's contents to the new one, buy a SSD where free cloning software is available to do that for you.

Samsung, Crucial and Western Digital provide such software, or there is trial software you can use such as Macrium Reflect.

In addition to buying a new drive, since the PC only has one M.2 SSD slot, you will need to purchase a USB 3/USB-C to M.2 SSD adapter so that you can install the new drive in that, clone the contents of your PC's currently installed drive, and after the cloning process has been completed, you can switch out the drives.

Something like this is what you need.

ORICO M2 NVMe SATA SSD Enclosure, USB C 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps NVME PCIe SSD Adapter, 5Gbps NGFF SATA M-Ke...

If you don't have other plans for the drive, you can put the 256 Go SSD in the enclosure and use it for portable storage.

Many thanks for your help.

Have you some references for SSD card 1Tb or more?

You're very welcome.

Your PC's NVMe slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

A Gen 4.0 SSD will work fine but the maximum transfer speed from a Gen 3.0 slot is limited to 4,000 MBPS.

But nowadays, a Gen 4.0 SSD is normally the same price as a Gen 3.0 SSD it it would probably be better to install a Gen 4 SSD, which you can always install in a newer PC in the future that has a Gen 4.0 slot.

So...

Here are 3 recommendations for you for 1 To drives:

Samsung 990 Pro NVMe M.2 Pcle 4.0 Solid State Drive, Internal SSD, 1TB Capacity, Read Speed Up to 74...

Only drawback is the price.

You can use the Samsung Magician software to clone the drive:

Samsung Magician Software Download | Samsung Semiconductor Global

Crucial P310 SSD 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 2280, Up to 7,100MB/s, Compatible with Laptop and Desktop, I...

This is a very good performing drive at a reasonable price.

Cloning software:

Acronis True Image for Crucial

WD_BLACK SN850X SSD 1TB, Internal Solid State Drive, Read up to 7300MB/s, Write up to 6,300MB/s, Gam...

Another good performing drive where the price lies in between the Samsung and Crucial drives.

You're very welcome.

Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.

HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0158nf Product Specifications | HP® Support

It comes with the HP 'Rother' motherboard.

The motherboard specs link on the above link doesn't work and unfortunately all the links to the motherboard specs I could find are broken.

At a minimum, you should be able to install up to 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2666 CL19 or DDR4-3200 CL22 non-ECC memory.

Hello Paul,

I have buy

ORICO M2 NVMe SATA SSD Enclosure, USB C 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps NVME PCIe SSD Adapter, 5Gbps NGFF SATA M-Ke...

And

Samsung 990 Pro NVMe M.2 Pcle 4.0 Solid State Drive, Internal SSD, 1TB Capacity, Read Speed Up to 74...

I also installed "Samsun Magician."

Unfortunately, the software doesn't recognize the card.

When I plug it into Windows 10, I get the message "F:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function."

I thought the USBc port wasn't working properly, so I plugged it into a regular USB port via an adapter, and the problem is the same.

What can I do?

Hi:

Unfortunately, I don't know.

You may have to resort to installing the new drive in the slot and clean installing Windows 10 or Windows 11.
