Hello! I'm looking at upgrading the SSD on my pc. I have an GT12-1179 model, the Oasis Motherboard. I know quite a decent amount about pc specs. I've recently upgraded my RAM on my pc to 32gb. I was looking at putting in TWO new SSD's, I'm not sure which kind my PC can take. The plan is to add a new SSD to the second slot, then clone to that one, then install the second one to replace my 500gb one, if anybody has any advice that would be great. I'm a little confused about what it says on the Oasis motherboard page. Can I put a gen 4 SSD in my pc or would it not read at all, I know they are backwards compatible, so I'm just thinking on if it will work/ what speeds this PC can even reach when it comes to the reading and writing on the ssd, I just don't want to spend 400$ and not have a 4TB SSD that works on my pc.

Hi @Scoot1134,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to upgrade the SSDs in your HP Omen GT12-1179 with the Oasis motherboard is a great way to enhance your system’s performance and storage capacity.
Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know for your upgrade:
1. SSD Compatibility:
- M.2 Slots: The Oasis motherboard typically supports M.2 NVMe SSDs. Check the specifications to confirm the number of M.2 slots available and their configurations (i.e., PCIe 3.0 or 4.0)
2. Performance Considerations:
- Speeds: If your motherboard supports PCIe Gen 4, you’ll benefit from the increased speeds of Gen 4 SSDs, which can reach up to 7000 MB/s (theoretical maximum), compared to Gen 3, which caps around 3500 MB/s. The actual speeds will depend on various factors, including the SSD’s controller and NAND type.
- BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates for your motherboard that enhance SSD compatibility or performance.

I hope this helps.
