Welcome to our HP User Forum!
You can install either -or both SATA SSD and M.2 NVMe Gen3 SSD.
If you do install an M.2 NVMe SSD, you should make that your primary (boot) drive for speed and performance. You'll need a freeware cloning software utility such as Macrium Reflect 8 Free to clone your old primary drive to the M.2 NVMe drive. Here is a YouTube instructional video how to do this: How To Clone Your Windows Boot Drive With Macrium Reflect - Easy and Free Software! - YouTube.
After completion of the cloning, you will need to make your M.2 NVMe drive your primary (boot) drive. You do this by hitting the F10 key repeatedly when you start up your desktop, in order to access BIOS. Once there, navigate to the "Advanced" tab, and click on "Boot Options", select your M.2 NVMe drive, and use the "UP/DOWN =Select Item" & "ENTER/SPACE/-> = Adjust" menu options to make your M.2 NVMe drive first in line.
Hope this was helpful.
