You're very welcome.

Yes, Gen 4.0 SSD's are fully backward compatible with PCIe Gen 3 slots.

The only thing will be that the Gen 4.0 drive will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.

The max transfer speed a Gen 3 slot can provide is 4,000 MBPS.

Here's the link to the Acronis cloning software for Crucial drives, which includes the download and a user guide.

Hello...
If your hardware allows it, of course it's possible. Since we can't see your system components in your signature, I had to give a superficial answer.
Good luck.

Hi:

Yes, as long as the currently installed M.2 SSD is NVMe you can clone it.

You will need cloning software which I believe Crucial offers for free if you buy one of their drives and you will need a USB 3/USB C to NVMe SSD enclosure to install the 1 TB drive in to clone the 256 GB drive's contents to it.

Something like this:

Amazon.com: SSK M.2 NVME SATA SSD Enclosure Adapter, USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) to NVME PCI-E SATA M-Ke...

Ok Thank you so much! I notice that the current 512 GB drive is gen 3 though the new drive is gen 4. the new drive mentions being backwards compatible with gen 3 on the amazon page so I assume this wont be a issue?
