Hi.  I am trying to give some life to this pc, which works pretty well, but will work much better with a SSD.  I have cloned the existing 1 TB HDD with a Samsung 1 TB SSD.  I have done this successfully many times with other systems.  When I remove the old HDD and replace it with the SSD, the computer hangs on the HP logo.  I can't get into the BIOS/Diagnostics, etc.  I have updated the BIOS to the current version and also the Diagnostics app.  Still no luck.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

 

I have seen this scenario on some HP consumer PCs in this forum.

 

No solution was provided.

 

I am assuming you know the Samsung SSD is a known good drive.

 

Try connecting the Samsung SSD as a data drive with the current HDD connected as the OS boot drive, which you know works. Check the BIOS to see if the SSD is detected.

 

You cannot use the Samsung SSD if the BIOS does not detect the disk.

Is this a Samsung issue?  Would you recommend another SSD drive brand that has a better "HP" chance of being recognized?

Although I have heard Kingston in this situation, Crucial guarantees their product to work in an HP 260-p026. I say this reference only because you did not mention the exact model number of your HP 260.

Tried the Crucial SSD route - same problem, the BIOS is not recognizing the SSD.  I even tried using the Crucial sw to clone.  Also tried disabling secure boot and enabling legacy mode.  Still no luck.  The one interesting thing, is that when the SSD is attached, (either Samsung or Crucial), I cannot even get into the BIOS.  Any suggestions or is this m-board/chipset unable to see SSDs?

Hi @jerrs 

 

A SATA SSD should work. SATA is SATA; if a SATA HDD works a SATA SSD should work.

 

Maybe only a HP software and design engineer can provide an answer.

 

I have seen this happen before on some HP consumer PCs in this forum.

 

Never saw a solution.

 

Money doesn't grow on trees but maybe only a HP 2.5 inch SATA SSD will work.
