HP Slimline 290
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I just bought an HP Slimline 290 Desktop PC and wanted to upgrade it with an SSD.

To my surprise, as I opened it, there was no screw to fixate the SSD!

Any idea how to get a replacement?

Thanks

Yes. There is no moving parts. I keep my from touching the case fan. The vibration may doing something to the clock circuit. Or if you like a fix place try Velcro tape.

Hi Jorgecdp

I have a slimline 450, there is a gap between 120MM fan and the usb connector. It does have constant air movement. I don't worry about mounting the drive

You mean the ssd does not need to be fixed with a screw?

Same here.  I just went to Ace and they had them.

It seems to be a common problem in HP computers. I finally managed to solve it with a screw from a very old graphic card which was luckily the same diameter and a washer that I cut out of a piece of metal.  Were I live there are no computer specialized shops, I would need to drive 2 hours for 1 screw...

Anyway, in this point I am very dissapointed with HP. I called customer service and expected that they would send me the screw, after all it is something that belongs the mainboard, but they denied it and suggested me to fix the SSD with tape....

Hi Jorge

SSD has a limited amount of erasing. TBW is TeraByte Write, once that drive maxes out you can not erase. You must destroy it if you have personal data. Once my drive approaches 100 TBW, it time to buy a new one. Right now the drive sits at 29.49 TBW according to Crystal Disk Info ver. 7.6. This drive is three years old, so another 12 years to 100 TBW. I have to wait a see.
