Hi there. Can server ECC ram be used in this system? The only reason I'm interested in server Ram - it's a lot cheaper on eBay.

I had asked the same question about older 2017 model I had and got conflicting responses from Crucian and Kingston (or maybe some other company).

I was told ECC can be used, but error checking will be disabled.

Also, according to crucial this system supports 64gb. I think it's an overkill, but if the price server ram can be used and the price is more than reasonable, I may go for it.

Thanks.

hi

  • Dual channel memory architecture (One DIMM per channel)
  • Two DDR4 SODIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports PC4-21300 (DDR4-2666) and up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933) for Core i7-10700 and i7-10700F
  • Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 SODIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
    note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) with two 16 GB DIMMs on 64-bit systems

there is obviously nothing specific here
but I advise you to use the same type of memory in place
Be careful because cheaper can also be a guarantee of poor quality
do you have links for the two types you found?

There are a ton of server memory on eBay and they all seem to be similar to one another.

I'm just curious if it can be used in my desktop - HP-M01-F1033wb.

As I mentioned earlier, I got conflicting responses when I asked Crucial and Kingston (or maybe some other company)

I was told ECC ram can be used, the error checking will be disabled. If that's the case, why not save money and get the cheapest memory? I don't care about RAM speed as much, I use this PC to browse the internet but Chrome can get heavy,  I need more than 16gb, but with server memory being much cheaper I could go with 32 if not 64 🙂

thanks.

Sorry, I answered you, if you use the same type of memory, probably no problem!
You have an example of what you found, because cheaper, it may not be a good idea!
