HP Phoenix
I’m attempting to install a new graphics card into my HP Phoenix gaming tower. I’ve removed the stock graphics card and inserted the new, but, on startup I receive a single beep and the computer can not get passed the windows startup menu without glitching out with blue lines crossing the screen horizontally.

If anyone could help me out with this that would be fantastic! I’m not exactly an expert and probably shouldn’t have tried this myself.

Greetings HelpmePlease,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not an HP employee.

Please provide the HP product number so we can see what your problem is.

You also need a specified minimum PSU which depends on the specific graphics card you are attempting to install.

You really need to provide more details to get a better answer to your problem.

There are two reasons why a graphics card upgrade fails.

1. The graphics card requires a UEFI BIOS. No UEFI BIOS equals failure with a newer generation graphics card.

2. You do have a UEFI BIOS. This means you must enter the BIOS. Disable Secure boot and enable Legacy boot before you install the new graphics card. You must also uninstall the current graphics drivers before installing the new graphics card.

Right. I’m just reading now that I may need to do some upgrading to the bios? I cannot find the secure boot menu within my menus.

Hi

Give me your product number.

It should be on the chassis.

You may not have a UEFI BIOS.

A new AMD or Nvidia card will not work unless you have a UEFI BIOS.

Please provide the graphics card ID.

Hi,

What operating system are you running now?

Your PC shipped with W7. There is a BIOS update if you are running W7. Do this update if you are using W7.

There is a BIOS update if you updated to W8.1 or are now using W10. Do this update if you are using W8.1 or W10.

Please tell me what graphics card you are trying to install.

I can't help you based on the information you are providing.

You need to follow instructions in the "Disable Secure Boot" link in my first response after updating the BIOS to install a new AMD or Nvidia graphics card.

You have a 600 watt power supply. This is not the roadblock you are now facing.

Bigger graphics cards require a supplemental PCIe power supply connection. This could be one six pin or more additional six or eight pin connections to the graphics card.

Regards
