Is there a way to keep the internal 1TB hard drive and add a boot SSD (internally) to this machine?

If so, are there any online videos/instructions/etc.?

There are 4 SATA 3Gb/sec ports. None are SATA 6Gb/sec ports.  You could add a 2.5" SSD drive, and it would be faster than the original 3.5" mechanical hard drive, but you will never get above SATA 3Gb/sec port speed.

Cloning with the free Macrium Reflect7 program is simple.  Adding a 1TB SSD is straight forward.
