Hi @joetow,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

  1. Incorrect Playback Device Selected
    • Windows may not be sending audio to the correct output (HDMI, speakers, or headset).
  2. Outdated or Missing Audio Drivers
    • The audio driver may be missing, outdated, or corrupted after a Windows update or system change.
  3. Hardware Configuration or Connection Issues
    • Loose connections, damaged cables, or faulty ports can prevent sound output.

 Recommended Steps

  1. Check Playback Device
    • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar → Sounds → Playback tab.
    • Make sure the correct device is set as default:
      • HDMI to TV → select your TV/HDMI output
      • Headset → select your headset or front panel audio device
  2. Update Audio Drivers
    • Go to HP Support → Software & Drivers → Enter your model (HP ENVY h8-1520)
    • Download and install the latest audio driver (Realtek or Conexant, depending on your system).
    • Restart your PC after installation.
  3. Check Hardware Connections
    • Ensure HDMI/DVI cables are securely connected.
    • For headsets, test both front and rear audio ports.
    • Try a different cable or headset to rule out hardware issues.
  4. Test Audio
    • After driver updates and verifying playback device, play a test sound:
      • Settings → System → Sound → Test your output device

I hope this helps.
