It has been asked before, and there have been zero useful responses. HP uses a very clever, and very hard to find, hold down for M.2 devices that incorporates an M1.6 screw (yes, that's a 1.6 mm screw size, not the much more common M2 or 2 mm screws used by other manufacturers) with a T8 Torx ("star") head, a 2.5mm standoff, and a plastic retaining clip. These seem to be common in recent HP hardware, in my case, their Thin Clients T540, T620, T630, and T640. The retainer clip allows you to push it onto the M.2 device before inserting in the socket, then secure it without fumbling around. There is currently one seller on eBay that is selling 2 for $8 because he has followed a rainbow to the pot of gold. This is a picture from his listing "Lot of M.2 Standoff And Screw For M.2 HD SSD HP Thin CLient T630".

Yea, I feel your pain, so to speak: I too had to scramble to find the elusive M1.6 screws. In the end I had to buy a lot of ten M1.6 3mm screws via AliExpress, but eBay carries them too, albeit in a larger volume but still pretty cheap, such as the example below.
I personally don't care much for torx screw heads. I'd like to keep it simple with good old Phillips head screws.
Kind Regards,
