I have 3 year old HP Pavilion 15-cs1063cl. My PC uses 100% HDD drive and unusable at times specially during boot ups.
I want to replace the Optane memory with a NVMe M2 SSD.
Then, I want to boot from the M2 SSD drive AND use the existing 1TB HD for data.
Also, what type of NVMe M2 SSDs can I buy, how can I find the list of compatible M2 drives? Can I buy the below M2 drive?
Crucial P3 Plus 500GB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 5000MB/s - CT500P3PSSD8
What steps do I have to do to make this happen?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi:
The Crucial P3 Plus will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from your notebook's M.2 slot because your notebook's slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0.
The best speed you can hope to get would be a maximum of around 3,500 MBPS.
An alternative would be the Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0, but it is considerably more expensive.
It does have faster max write speeds than the Crucial P3 has -- even if it was running in a Gen 4 PCIe slot.
There is a specific procedure to follow when removing Intel Optane memory.
See the last two sections of the info at the link below.

HP has the steps out of order.
You would first disable the Intel Optane memory in the Intel RST software.
Then you would disable it in the BIOS if your PC has a setting to do so.
Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the M.2 SSD removal and replacement procedure.
