HP Pavilion Desktop - 570-p026
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Boot screen said CPU fan was failing.  Replaced fan and heatsink.  System boots, but overheats even in BIOS.  Tried upgrading current 2018 BIOS 82F2 vF.35 to July 13, 2020 BIOS 82FE vF.29 Rev.A and it says newer BIOS already installed, so it fails the update.

Thermal compound was cleaned and replaced with new heatsink and fan.

System boots to Windows, but overheating occurs quickly.

Is the system just toast?

Hi @ZTech2023

Welcome to the HP Forum.

82F2 is the correct MB ID for the Lubin MB. This Site has the latest BIOS update for this MB.

I don't know if a BIOS update is the problem. Try this update.

Then try redoing the new CPU heatsink/fan install. Maybe you didn't get it right the first time. Not saying you messed up. I have had to redo this procedure at times over the years.

Or you have a thermal sensor problem somewhere (CPU or MB). Is the system locking up or restarting due to a thermal problem after installing the new CPU cooler?

Regards

I appreciate your help, but it ultimately did not work.

I removed the CPU and cleaned the thermal compound, then applied fresh.  It started functioning without overheating, then shut down and attempted booting again, but got the error message that it was shut down due to thermal overheating.

The initial fan had quit working, so I suspect that there was enough overheating to fry the CPU, and the system is old enough that it makes more sense to replace the system, so I built a new one and will not be pursuing other solutions.
