Hello. This questions relates to a HP 290 G2 SFF running Windows 10 Pro. If TPM is enabled in the BIOS but not recognised in Windows what can be done?
- BIOS - TPM Device - Active
- BIOS - TPM State - Enabled
- Windows - Device Manager - Security devices - Trusted Platform Module 2.0 , "This device is working normally"
- Windows - TPM.msc "Compatible TPM cannot be found"
Here is a list of what has been tried:
- The BIOS has been upgraded to the latest version (F.21>F.36)
- Windows updates have been installed.
- Scan performed for updates using HP support application (none available)
- Scan performed within Windows for TPM driver updates (none available)
- Secure boot enabled within the BIOS
- Admin password set within the BIOS.
- Fast boot disabled within Windows
- TPM cleared in BIOS
I understand if the computer was originally sold with FreeDOS or in a country where encryption is not allowed, then TPM is not available. Presumably, if TPM was deactivated it would be reflected in the BIOS and so, in the above case, we can assume there is TPM but for some reason Windows cannot use it properly. Correct?

Hi @Ad0101
It looks like all the ducks are in a row.
Can you select "Prepare TPM" in the Management Console?
I have never cleared TPM in the BIOS. No need to do this in my situation. TPM is functional in both Device Manager and Management Console.
Try resetting to default BIOS. Verify TPM is on in the BIOS. Don't clear TPM.
I did enable Windows and BIOS virtualization to use some additional Windows Security features requiring TPM. Can't say if this is your problem.
Windows sees TPM on your PC (Device Manager) but something is amiss.

Thank you for your reply. By "management console" I take it you mean the TPM.msc programme in Windows? No -- there is no option to "Prepare TPM". For that matter there was no "Prepare TPM" option in BIOS either.
In terms of cleaning TPM in BIOS, actually I am not sure if this worked anyway as there was a dialogue in the BIOS that cleaning would only work upon reboot and responding to a further prompt (but there was no further prompt)
Yes, I tried resetting BIOS to default options -- no difference.
