Hey guys,

I've been having a problem with my computer that I can't solve.
A few months ago I suspected that something was wrong with the computer but now I have confirmation.
Initially the problem was just:

- Turned on the computer and randomly it might or might not turn off 3 seconds after turning it on, but after turning itself off, it would turn on again 5 seconds later

I ignored this problem as it happened a few times. Lately it's been getting worse.
I use Premiere Pro a lot for video editing, and lately the following has happened:

- In the middle of an edit (light or heavy, there is no criterion) the computer freezes, I can't do anything, 10 seconds later it restarts.

- It started to randomly bluescreen while using the computer.

More recently, during one of those blue screens, windows asked for a diagnosis that took 2h. After the computer turned on I went to the events and there are two errors:

"The Windows Memory Diagnostic tested the computer's memory and detected hardware errors. To identify and repair these problems, contact the computer manufacturer"

"The server {AB8902B4-09CA-4BB6-B78D-A8F59079A8D5} was not registered with DCOM within the required timeout."

I assume there is some RAM problem, any opinions?

Thanks!

Hi:

Yes, I agree that your PC has a defective memory chip.

Unfortunately, the Windows memory diagnostic tool does not tell you which one is no good, so if you have more than one memory chip installed, you will have to remove all but one of them and run that memory diagnostic tool on each chip until the one you install reports the error.

Before working inside the PC, shut it down, and unplug it.

The support site is down currently, but on your PC's support page there should be a service guide.

You do not have to run the Windows memory test to completion.

I have noticed that within 10 - 30 seconds of running the test, it will detect the bad chip and give you the Windows Memory Diagnostic tested the computer's memory and detected hardware errors. To identify and repair these problems, contact the computer manufacturer" message.

Once you see that message, you can cancel the test, then shut down, unplug the PC, remove the chip and test the next one.

Replace the one that reports the error.

You should be able to run the PC without the defective chip until you can buy a replacement.
