The pc mic mute button and function key is not working. There is indicator light for both keys but not shining at all. How can I fix it, please?

@Jobiro, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The mic mute button and function key not working, along with the indicator light not shining, could be due to driver issues, firmware settings, or Windows configurations. Try the following steps:

Check Windows Settings

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar > Sound settings.
  • Scroll to Input > Select your microphone and click Device properties.
  • Ensure the Disable option is not checked.
  • Try muting/unmuting from here to see if the button responds.

Update Audio and Keyboard Drivers

  • Right-click Start > Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Intel Smart Sound) > Update driver > Search automatically.
  • Expand Keyboards, right-click HID Keyboard Device > Update driver.
  • Restart your PC.

Check HP Audio Controls (if applicable)

  • Search for HP Audio Control or Bang & Olufsen Audio Control in Start.
  • Check if the mute function is disabled in its settings.

Run the Audio Troubleshooter

  • Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter.

Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart and enter BIOS (press F10 or Esc at boot).
  • Look for an option related to Function Key Behavior or Audio Controls.
  • If available, enable Action Keys Mode and save changes.

Perform a System Restore (If Issue Started Recently)

  • Search "Create a restore point" in Start > System Restore > Choose a point before the issue started.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
