HP Elite Mini 800 G9
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have a cpuless HP Elite Mini 800 G9 that originally came with a i7-13700 CPU. I would like to put in a i5-12400 that I have laying around, which according to HPs specsheet is supported in a Mini 800 G9. However, when I put in the CPU the computer will not boot and instead beeps 3 long, 6 short that according to the manual translates to "The processor does not support an enabled feature".

Which feature is this and is there anything I can do? I have tried to reset BIOS by removing the CMOS battery for an extended period, but no help.

Thanks.

It sounds like your processor may not be compatible with certain features enabled in your system. If you're using a raid controller card, it's important to check both the processor's and the card's compatibility with the specific RAID setup you're trying to configure. Updating the BIOS or firmware may also resolve the issue.

@Simo1212,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

Please disregard the previous spam response.

The error message: "The processor does not support an enabled feature" typically indicates that the CPU (Intel i5-12400 in this case) is lacking a capability required by the BIOS or firmware settings on your HP Elite Mini 800 G9.  Processor compatibility depends on the specific motherboard and BIOS version.

Unfortunately, in order to effectively troubleshoot this issue, you'll need a working processor...

Please note that the "T" variant processors such as an i5-12500T are optimized for lower power consumption, making them more suitable for compact and energy-efficient systems like your HP Elite Mini 800 G9.

Here are a few things to consider once you got your Mini up and running with a working processor:

1. Check BIOS Settings:

  • Ensure that the BIOS settings are compatible with the Intel i5-12400. Sometimes, features like Intel VT-d, Intel Optane, or TPM might be enabled, and the CPU might not fully support those features in the current BIOS configuration.
  • Disable any features that are not supported by the CPU and try booting again.

2. Update BIOS/Firmware:

  • Check if there is an available BIOS update from HP that addresses compatibility with newer processors. Manufacturers often release updates to improve compatibility with new hardware.

3. Processor Support:

  • Yes, an Intel i5-12400 is officially supported by the HP Elite Mini 800 G9.  Since its TDP is rated at 65-watt, you should have at least a 90-watt power charger/supply.

4. Reseat or Check Installation:

  • If the processor is not properly seated in the socket, or if there are any issues with the installation, it could cause incompatibility errors. Ensure the CPU is correctly installed.  Please inspect the processor socket very carefully to make sure that there no bend electrical pins and such and that it is completely free of debris.

5. Reset CMOS:

  • You already did this: Try resetting the CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) to clear the BIOS settings and restore defaults. This can sometimes resolve conflicts between the CPU and BIOS settings.

Kind Regards,
