Thin client t610

I bought a T610 thin client online, with purpose to use it as a retro gaming console.

It has an AMD G-T56N CPU in it.

It was sold to me without power supply.

I would like to know if there's a converter/adapter plug for the proprietary power supply plug, and what it's name is?

Worst case, I'd like to know where I can purchase a matching psu.

Second, this client was made for Windows embedded.

Does it support Ubuntu or an older Windows XP/98?

And if yes, can some of the embedded drivers work on these operating systems?

Reason being, I would love to make it into a working DOS/Win95 to XP gaming console.

Thanks!

Hi:

You should be able to get a power adapter on eBay.

Find a listing where you get both the adapter and the plug that goes from the wall socket to the adapter.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=T610+power+adapter+genuine+HP&_sac...

It was designed to run W7.

You can try ubuntu.

https://ubuntu.com/download

It will not run W98, and highly unlikely it will run XP.

To try and run XP, you would certainly need the sata controller drivers in order for XP to install.

If you want the original W7 embedded operating system, and you live in Canada/USA, call HP at this number and see if they still have W7 embedded recovery media for it... 1-800-334-5144

Thanks!

I was digging through an old box, and found a 95W smart adapter, with the required plug for the thin client!

The first OS I'll install is Lubuntu, however, I would definitely want to see if I can get W7 to work (even though the unit originally came with a form of embedded Windows?)

That it won't run Win 98 is ok. The unit has 4GB of RAM, and Win 98 doesn't support that.
But Win XP is a pity!
Because Win XP is one of the last operating systems that still can run DOS programs well.

Windows 7 has a variety of issues with older games.

What's the max memory this client can handle?
I have 2 x 4GB DDR 3 sticks, that I would want to try out as well!

Very nice made for it being so many years old!

You're very welcome.

The specs state 2 x 4 GB, but you would need to install a 64 bit OS for more than 4 GB to be of any use.

If you want to try XP, I don't know what SATA drivers it uses, but the ones I zipped up and attached below are typical of what AMD uses in their platforms.  I have attached both the XP 32 and 64 bit versions.

You can google how to slipstream the drivers into a copy of your XP installation media, or you can read this old document I have, which I also attached below.  It pertains to Intel drivers, but the method to slipstream them is the same.

You would slipstream the entire unzipped driver folder.

You may have a problem finding drivers for XP, but if you get it installed, let me know, and I will see what I can do to help.
