OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-150t CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

What is the maximum memory size for a hard drive to be installed in the expansion bay?  6tb, 8tb, 10tb or more?

I actually have a 6tb drive in one of the top bays.  I'm trying to find out if I can go larger than that for the other bay.  I ordered an 8tb drive to drop in there, so I guess I'll find out.  Thanks.

@krigger -- is this your computer: OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-150t CTO Product Specifications and Configurable Options | HP® Customer ...

It was manufactured in October 2017 -- quite a while ago.

Many years ago, many motherboards were limited to a maximum of 2 terabytes.

I looked at: Solved: max hard drive size - HP Support Community - 6776441

for a detailed description of the 2TB limit for older motherboards and "file-systems".

I cannot find any detailed information that is specific to your computer about what the BIOS supports.

I presume that you are using Windows 10, which has the capability to handle larger-than-2TB disk-drives.

Hello
there is no limitation indicated for this product
It is only mentioned the max capacity, installed

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-880-100-desktop-pc-series/18695893/document/c0584745...

in theory, in sata we can install large capacity
But better, do not use discs below 4 tb, see 2 tb
less data loss in case of failures

nothing to do if I change the language, it does not give the same result here

https://www.seagate.com/fr/fr/support/kb/the-bios-does-not-detect-or-recognize-the-ata-sata-hard-dri...

Hard drive capacity (ATA only) is too large for BIOS to support
Image This procedure only applies to ATA hard disks, SATA controllers have no problem detecting large capacity SATA disks.

Computer systems built before October 1998 typically crash automatically detecting large capacity hard drives at system startup.
Known BIOS capacity limits are 528MB, 2.1GB, 8.4GB, 32, and 128GB.
