Hi @pramodpshetty12,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop's touchpad is acting up intermittently, there could be several reasons behind it. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue.
- Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix temporary glitches. Restart your laptop and see if the touchpad starts working properly again.
- Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the touchpad for any physical damage like cracks or scratches.
- Update Touchpad Drivers: Outdated or corrupt touchpad drivers can cause erratic behavior. Update the touchpad drivers to the latest version from the HP website or Device Manager.
- Adjust Touchpad Settings: HP laptops usually have touchpad settings that can be customized. Go to your laptop's Control Panel or Settings and look for touchpad settings. You can adjust sensitivity, scrolling behavior, etc., to see if it resolves the issue.
- Clean the Touchpad: Sometimes, dirt, dust, or oil buildup on the touchpad surface can interfere with its functionality. Use a soft cloth dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the touchpad surface.
- Disable and Re-enable the Touchpad: Sometimes, toggling the touchpad off and on can reset it. You can do this either through the touchpad settings or by pressing a designated key combination on your keyboard (often Fn + a function key).
- Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, system updates include fixes for hardware issues.
- Run Hardware Diagnostics: HP laptops often come with built-in hardware diagnostic tools. You can run these diagnostics to check if there's any hardware issue causing the touchpad problem.
- Test in Safe Mode: Boot your laptop into Safe Mode and check if the touchpad works properly there. If it does, it could indicate that a third-party software or driver is causing the issue.
- System Restore: If the problem started recently, you can try restoring your system to a previous point when the touchpad was working fine.
- Hardware Repair: If none of the above solutions work, there might be a hardware issue with the touchpad itself.
Try these steps one by one and see if any of them resolve the issue with your HP laptop's touchpad.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
