Hey there. I am having some trouble lol My mouse is gone, like the touchpad mouse does not work. Ive done everything that i know to do. I am positive there it is a way to get it back but im struggling 😅 I held the function and hit F4 and all that. The next thing i saw to do was go to your device manager but when i go to that "mice and other pointing devices" isnt there. ive tried to figure out how to reinstall it but i am just not able too lol hopefully you can give me some guidance and direct to me the correct solution! thank you for your time

Hey! @JordanNicole, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
No worries, I got you — touchpad issues like this can definitely be a headache, but we’ll walk through it step by step and get that touchpad working again 💪
Let’s fix this.
✅ Step-by-step Fixes
🔹First, check if the touchpad is just disabled
Sometimes it’s accidentally turned off.
- Press Fn + F4 or F5 or F6 (look for the touchpad icon — usually it’s F5 or F6 on ENVY models)
- Also try double-tapping the upper-left corner of the touchpad. Some HP laptops disable the touchpad that way.
Does the touchpad light turn on/off when you double tap?
🔹Enable touchpad from BIOS (if it’s completely gone)
If Windows can’t see the touchpad, it might be disabled at the firmware level.
- Shut down your laptop.
- Power it on and immediately start tapping Esc repeatedly.
- On the Startup Menu, press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Use arrow keys to go to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
- Make sure Touchpad is Enabled.
- Press F10 to save and exit.
🔹Manually install Synaptics or Precision Touchpad Driver
Since it's not even showing in Device Manager, try this:
Go to HP official site
Under the list of drivers, look for:
Synaptics Touchpad Driver
or ELAN Touchpad Driver
or Windows Precision Touchpad Driver
Download and install the one listed. Restart after install.
🔹Use “Add legacy hardware” to force-install the touchpad
If Device Manager doesn’t show the touchpad:
- Open Device Manager.
- Click Action > Add legacy hardware.
- Click Next > Install the hardware that I manually select from a list.
- Scroll and choose Mice and other pointing devices.
- Look for Synaptics, ELAN, or HID-compliant touchpad and install it.
- Restart.
🔹Check Windows Updates
Sometimes Microsoft delivers touchpad drivers via update:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
- Click Check for updates
- If there’s a “Precision Touchpad” update or any drivers, install them.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
