HP Pavilion 595-p0074
Microsoft Windows 11

I am seeking advice about the following:

1)  A tower case manufacturer/model that will accommodate the original HP-modified 843B version 00 motherboard,

2) an upgrade of the original integrated graphics to an ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4060 card, which is the main reason for getting a larger case,

3) upgrading the original 843B motherboard’s i5-8400 processor to an Intel Core i7-9700 8 core, and

4) whether the original 595’s power supply will be sufficient for the ASUS card and fans - or if more power is needed or advised.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @SteveU1

Welcome to the HP Forum.

The good news is you can do an i7-9700 in your MB. This CPU is supported at the factory.

The unfavorable news is the 595-p0074: case, power supply, and MB are proprietary parts. The power supply HP shipped with your PC is a 180 watt part.

And you can't put the: HP MB and the HP power supply in a retail case. A retail power supply will not work with your MB and will not fit in your HP case.

It is not possible to do what you want to do.

You could possibly upgrade the HP power supply to a 500 watt part (the 400 watt power supply will fit) and find a graphics card that fits in the HP case and works with the HP 400 watt or possibly the 500 watt power supply.

Or think about a new PC if the: definitive 400 watt HP PSU upgrade and alternative graphics card upgrade option does not work for you.

Thank you very much Bill_To for the rapid response in completely addressing my questions.
I have decided to back off from considering the ASUS ROG 4060 card and instead get an EVGA 06G-P4-1068-KR GeForce GTX 1660. The EVGA will fit my tower and the ASUS is really more than what is needed for my non-gaming use.
Also, an i5-12400F can be used rather than the i7-9700, again because my needs do not require the i7.
Now, I will contact HP support directly about whether upgrading the 180-watt PSU to a more powerful unit is advised for my system.
Thank you again for your clear explanations and helping educate on these modifications.

Hi @SteveU1

My pleasure.

The 1660 should be okay with the HP 400 watt power supply. You can get the HP PSU (part number L04618-800) at eBay.

Your PC's case is limited to a dual slot graphics card at around 9 inches.

An i5-12400F will not work with your MB. You can do i5-9400F. I would do a i5-9400 which has integrated graphics.

Your PC has rear VGA and HDMI ports to run integrated graphics if needed.

Great. I'll order an i5-9400 and L04618-800 and, along with the GTX 1660, I should be good to go.

Kind regards,

Steve
