Hello everyone, so I am moving to a PC tower finally and I really want to move all data and files from my laptop to a external SSD I have so I can transfer it to my tower once I get it so the laptop can be sold. I thought that making a backup of everything on the harddrive would work but I'm not sure if that was what I was supposed to do. If anyone knows how the process will work I would love the help.

Buy yourself a high capacity USB flashdrive.
Plug it into the laptop after it is booted into Windows and copy everything you want to transfer to the new PC.
When you are finished, plug it into the new PC after booting to Windows and copy everything to appropriate folders.
Remove the your usb flash drive and put it in a safe and secure location.
