I am having trouble installing an SSD ( Crucial MX100 1TB) into my computer. Whenever I plug it all in (to SATA 1 as SATA 0 is taken by my HDD),It dosen't appear in the BIOS. I have switched around the cables to make sure that wasn't the issue but it still didn't work. I did notice when I plugged my HDD into SATA 1 it said that there was some sort of cable or HDD error and wouldn't let me boot up. I have also tried plugging my SSD into SATA 3 to no avail. I have checked the BIOS and the only options there are about enabling or disabling SATA ports is for the eSATA and in the Storage tab only SATA 0 shows up (should other SATA ports show up even when nothing is in them?). I have not yet tried using the eSATA port as I can't figure out whether your supposed to use SSDs through it. I have contacted HP support only for them to say my SSD is incompatible as its too large (128GB maximum?) even though I have seen others successfully use 1TB SSDs in the same computer aswell as seeing somewhere else in this fourm of one of "experts" using a 256GB SSD. I am at my wits end and really want to use this SSD (for the performance upgrade) that I got for free instead of wasting it. Please, any suggestions?

I figured it out.

So the 1TB SSD wasn't compatible with my PC anyhow but I did get to the root of the problem.

In the BIOS under Security, all SATA ports (apart from the one my HDD was plugged into) were disabled so it wouldn't show up anywhere in my OS.

Once I had fixed this issue,my DVD ROM also worked again (which now has another issue reading blank CDs).

Generally a good idea it seems to look around in the BIOS for any settings that would cause hardware not to work (as long as you don't mess around with stuff you don't know about).

Hi:

I have an Intel 730 240 GB SSD in my HP 8200 Elite CMT.

Worked the first time with no issues whatsoever.

I don't know why a 1 TB SSD wouldn't work.

You must install it in SATA port 0.

No other SATA ports show up unless there is something connected to them and powered on.
