HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Small Form Factor PC (8YM57AV)

Hello, and apologies in advance if this is a stupid Q!

I have recently been provided with the listed HP desktop to use at home, and I am trying to integrate it better into my home office setup.

I have a personal laptop running through a Thunderbolt dock to 3 monitors. The new desktop will attach to the same monitors directly (2x Display Port & 1x HDMI), but that means swapping three cables back and forth when switching between work machine and desktop.

I am therefore looking to add a Thunderbolt out port to the desktop, and I can then simply swap the Thunderbolt cable back and forth (far more sensible) but I am completely baffled by what part/card/upgrade I need to buy, and after reading all the HP docs I believe that there should be the ability to do this as the online specs list  12. Optional Thunderbolt PCIe card with USB-C® (shown here not installed), but I can find no details  of what card to buy (or what may be compatible).

Can anybody point me in the right direction.....would be eternally grateful!

Cheers

This is the Thunderbolt option board

The HP part number is 1E8A4AA. You can find it in Europe.

Here it is in Switzerland. It is not inexpensive at CHF 128.42 VAT included

See the Maintenance & Service guide in chapter 4, page 43 for installation instructions.

Hi Erico - firstly many thanks for your assistance, I really appreciate it!

Can I please double-check (as a non HP expert I find some of the details confusing, and don't want to spend on something that might not be compatible).....the product specs sheet on the SHI website link below states:

  • for EliteDesk 800 G6 (mini desktop); ProDesk 600 G6 (mini desktop)

I am worried that this is therefore *not* compatible with the EliteDesk 800 G6 SFF model, as if I look at some of the other options available, other cards on that sheet specifically list EliteDesk 800 G6 SFF compatibility.

Do I have to conclude that if the SFF model is not listed that it is not compatible (and try and seek an alternative solution)?

Cheers.

My apologies.

You were absolutely right. Measure twice and cut once, like in woodworking.

What you need to add a thunderbolt port is a low profile PCIe Thunderbolt card  that will fit into one of the PCIe 3.0 x16 slots on the motherboard.

You will need to remove one of the metal covers at the rear of the SFF PC to accommodate the installation.

Low-profile PCIe 3.0 Thunderbolt cards are available
