I am trying to install an 8TB hard drive to my OMEN 30L as the 2nd hard drive.
But the BIOS doesn't recognize it, so Windows OS doesn't recognize it either.
I reseated the SATA cables, and swapped the 8TB hdd with the 2TB hdd which came with the OMEN, but no luck.
The 8TB hdd is working fine with another computer, so it's not dead.
Does the BIOS cap the hard drive capacity?

It hos to show up in bios or windows will not see it.
When you swapped drives, did you use the same power / data cable as the 2TB. System should be powered off (unplug if no power off)
When it re-started did the bios show the new disk drive? Unused SATA ports may be disabled in bios but substituting your new drive for the old one uses the same port and cables so you should have seen something.
AFAICT there should be no problem using 8tb drive since shortly after SATA was developed.

Thank you very much for your reply!
I didn't think about the power supply, but my OMEN 30L has 800W PSU and my other computer has 750W.
The 8TB drive was working fine on the 750W computer with 2 more HDDs, so it's not like power supply issue.
There are only two SATA ports on the motherboard. The 2TB HDD that came with this OMEN work on both ports.
So the SATA ports/cables should be fine. But the 8TB HDD doesn't even show up in the BIOS....

Thank you for your reply!
It doesn't show up in Device Manager either.
I tried on Windows 10 too (I have another M.2 SSD and installed Windows 10 for this OMEN to test)
but no 8TB HDD under Device Manager.,, I think I need to get the BIOS recognize the driver first.

Hello
according to what you indicate, everything would be ok, but you never know
see if this can help you
Re: Adding Second drive to Omen 25L desktop GT12-0050na - HP Support Community - 8137737
if the power cable is not connected, it can not work
from what you indicate, it does not appear to be it, but it can easily be overlooked!
If the HDD is not recognized in the bios, it will not be visible in the disk management
Since you indicate that it works with another computer
it rarely works, but you can try
Once in place, in your other computer, if possible, create a single partition, of 1TB, leave the rest blank
you need to have fully formatted the hdd drive, so if you have data on it, see what you can do
then place it in the new one, connect the sata data cable, and the sata power cable, restart
If nothing to do, either an update of the bios, could suffice (I do not recommend it because of the risk of failure)
either it will be necessary to resolve to change HDD by a smaller one maybe

There is the possibility of a spin-up problem. Look in the bios for "spin up delay" or something like that. Alternately, disable fast start which skips the memory test as part of "speeding up". Enable memory test might allow the disk time to get ready before the system scans for disk drives.
Some of the UEFI bios have a rescan to do a second look for disk drives. If in the BIOS you can try CTL-ALT-DEL to reboot without turning off the system.
If your drive is 5400rpm and designed for archive it may need 3 seconds to get up to speed or it might need more if 7200 rpm.
