When I purchased my new HP desktop computer, it came with a standalone keyboard. How can I determine whether this keyboard can be illuminated?

Hi @AVphile

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the curiosity—it’s natural to want to make full use of your new desktop setup, and the glow of a backlit keyboard can make a big difference in comfort.

Before we can determine whether your standalone keyboard supports illumination, I’d like to gather a few details so we can isolate the situation clearly:

  • Could you share the exact model number of the keyboard (usually printed on the underside)?
  • When you connect the keyboard, do you notice any lights at all—such as indicators for Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Function keys?
  • Is the keyboard wired or wireless?
  • Did the packaging or product description mention “backlit” or “illuminated keys”?
  • Are you using the keyboard directly with the HP desktop, or through a docking station/USB hub?

With this information, we’ll be able to confirm whether the keyboard is designed with illumination features or if it’s a standard non‑backlit model. Would you like to check the underside label now and let me know the product ID or model name printed there?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
