Microsoft Windows 11

I want to upgrade from 4Gb of Ram to 16Gb of ram, I ran the ram checker on windows, and it says I can have a max of 16Gb. I only have 1 slot and I am not sure what ram to buy to make sure it fits. I currently have Samsung 4Gb 2400 Mhz SODIMM fitted according to task manager, so what would I need to buy to make sure an upgrade fits in the slot?

Thanks in advance

I believe that notebooks with those processors only have one memory slot, and the service manual indicates the max memory is 1 x 8 GB.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

If this the model processor your notebook has, Intel indicates the max memory is 8 GB.

Intel Pentium Silver N5030 Processor 4M Cache up to 3.10 GHz Product Specifications

The Windows memory report is picking up the circuitry for a second memory slot that is not present on the motherboard.

I would have been a lot more comfortable if the report indicated 32 GB which would have meant you could install a 16 GB memory chip in the slot.

But I think that it may be worth the gamble because 16 GB of memory works in notebooks with the Celeron N4020 where Intel also indicates the max is 8 GB.

Recommended memory chips if you can get them in Norway:

Crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM | CT16G4SFD824A | Crucial.com

If you want to play it safe:

Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM | CT8G4SFS824A | Crucial.com

Thanks for your advice, I will try to source one of the 16Gb and take the chance with that one, again thanks for your help 🙂

Will do, I have just ordered it and it will take about a week to get it, once I fit it I will post the results back here 🙂

Just received the 16Gb ram, fitted it and it is reading 16Gb so that all works 🙂

That's great news and thanks for letting us know that 1 x 16 GB of memory works fine in the notebooks with the Intel® Pentium® Silver N5030 processors.
