Can I,  (do I need to) UPGRADE GRAPHICS? I would like to use system for gaming, after >20 year hiatus. Last games I played were Quake, System Shock!

About to buy Oculus(META) Quest 2 and would like to link to PC to play more VR games/content.

DESKTOP PAVILION TP01-3127c Reno motherboard, currently has Radeon RX 550 (2GB GDDR5 dedicated)

Thanks,

Eric

Any suggestions for a sub $500 graphics/PSU  combination upgrade?

Thanks

Start with your existing card https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-550.c2947

scroll the "relative performance" looking for a better card then select a higher performance card, launch into a new windows and look at the power supply requirements

Pick a card and power supply that is in your budget

That Quest 2 may run OK on your system according to this

https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/oculus-quest-2/20359

The rx550 has 2gb of ram but the above shows 3gb so possibly a problem.  You may need to set resolution lower.

However, that is the minimum required

You are limited by the 310 watt size power supply and I did not see any power supply upgrades listed here

@ES32,

There have been several HP Forum threads claiming/implying that the OEM HP 500 watt L05757-800 power supply is compatible with a TP01 (Reno) motherboard, such as here: Solved: Graphics and PS upgrade on TP01-0040 - HP Support Community - 7736190.

You can purchase an HP L05757-800 here, for example: L05757-800 original HP Desktop-PC power supply 500 Watt - sparepartworld.com.

The advantage of this 500 watt power supply is that it comes with one 6+2-pin and one 6-pin PCIe power cables.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

hi

bout to buy Oculus(META) Quest 2 and would like to link to PC to play more VR games/content.

you should check, system requirements for device and games
Some graphics cards will not be compatible
given the possible limit for the 500w power supply, you will not be able to use certain graphic cards
I strongly advise you to take into account, the difficulty of leveling, the blow etc!
this is in French, and I don't know if everything is correct, but for example

OP here,  thanks for all your replies!  So as I understand, I can install a higher end video card in this machine, but many will require a bigger  power supply and perhaps more cooling.

Any suggestions for a sub $500 graphics/PSU  combination upgrade?

Thanks

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. As a “HarleyBiker” instead of a “BeemerBiker”, I’m not nearly as sophisticated or technologically up to date!😀
