@Rosedale604,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Likely not if this is a PCIe x1 slot card, but please check if this card specifically requires an X4, X8 or X16 PCIe slot, in that case you may get pretty good I/O speeds.

Another point is that your HP Z840 Workstation is wired for USB 3.0 speeds as the manual states, quote: "In the rear I/O area, the HP Z840 provides four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, two gigabit ethernet LAN ports, audio Line-In, audio Line-Out, PS/2, and a serial port. Additional rear I/O ports can be added via PCIe add-in cards."  Meaning, it is not clear to me if a PCIe card can upgrade your system with faster-than USB3.0 ports.

Btw, another option would be an HP Thunderbolt card, such as p/n: L33676-001 ("SPS-PCA DUAL-PORT TBT3-AIC PCIE KIT - WS"), which, as described in the manual, could provide up to "20 Gb/s data in each direction".

What it will do is increase the number of USB ports, which if needed, is very useful -I got a similar card installed in my rig, but not necessarily for speed.

Kind Regards,
