HP Elite Mini 800 G9 Desktop PC (550B4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi All

After checking compatibility with HP I bought and installed a HP USB 3.1 Gen1 x2 Module Flex IO v2 [13L58AA] into my Elite Mini 800 G9. Ever since then I've had huge problems with all of the USB ports on the back of the unit and, on the rare occasions when they are recognised, File Explorer or any other application I use to access an attached device hangs (i.e., says "Not Responding"), and I have to go into Task Manager to end task.

I've tried both updating and rolling back the drivers and doing a fresh install of W11. I've also checked that the module is seated correctly. Before I take the module out and see if the remaining ports will 'recover', and, potentially, start all over again, has anyone else experienced a similar issue or can offer advice.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to HP Support Community, @wowthatstings

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

1. Update BIOS Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support page.

  • Enter your serial number or product name and click Submit.

  • Go to Software, Drivers, and Firmware.

  • Select your Windows version and click Submit.

  • Check for BIOS updates under All Drivers and download/install the latest version.

2. Update USB and Chipset Drivers

  • On the HP Support page, look for USB and chipset drivers.

  • Download and install the latest versions.

  • Reboot the system and test USB stability.

3. Check for Windows Updates

  • Open Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update.

  • Click Check for updates and install any pending updates.

  • Reboot the system.

4. Investigate Third-Party Drivers or Software

  • Identify any third-party USB or system management software.

  • Update or temporarily uninstall them to test stability.

  • Check Event Viewer for USB-related errors.

5. Test and Isolate the Problem

  • Remove the Flex IO module and confirm if USB ports work normally.

  • Reinstall the module and connect only essential USB devices.

  • Test the module on another compatible system if possible.

  • If instability occurs only on your Elite Mini 800 G9, the module may be incompatible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
