Do you use SAME RAM card as the existing one ? On my machine I used Guarantied compatible RAM from Crucial but it failed. I had to source exactly same existing RAM for my machine.

I think I have a dead memory slot. The RAM card is the same as original, even Samsung brand. Original card was installed in XMM2 slot for unknown reasons - suspicious. Both the old and the new 8GB cards work in XMM2 slot. NEITHER card will boot the computer in XMM1 slot and the the computer will not boot with both slots filled. Power is on, but BIOS isn't triggered and the screens stay black. Slot XMM1 has been thoroughly cleaned, so I suspect it was a bad slot from the beginning and wasn't recognized until I tried to expand. Absent new insights, I'm sending the additional RAM card back and giving up on this upgrade and will live with 8GB RAM.
