Be very Cautious when using a BIOS that wasn't developed by HP.  You can easily create an expensive boat anchor! 😉

Thank you for the word of caution, the bios download I used was from hp so feel pretty good. So far the computer is running fine.

off you say it didn't work, correct?
In this case, I think it will not help a user in the same case, since if finally it does not make your processor work, it can mislead
As @old_geekster  mentions updating the bios, is not to be taken lightly, many users have already reported that they have "broken" their computer, with a failed update
You did not answer, your processor is which version exactly, because if it is in the list, it should work, unless it is a problem of TDP, or damaged!

You are correct it didn't work as far as the CPU problem and yes, it is miss leading which at the time of the post I wasn't thinking about. I was referring to the 5.08 bios update which did work I should have clarified that better...

So, to clear up my unclear solution to the community: 

The bios 5.08 update that was from hp did download and install properly however the update did not help (fix) my CPU issue with the AMD Phenom II x 4 965 3.4 GHz, sorry for the confusion this may have caused.

I am glad that the BIOS update worked.  It is not always possible to get a HP BIOS for another model to work even if it is the same motherboard.  Each model has its own characteristics and updates.
