HP All-in-One PC 24-df1000i (1W762AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,  Can someone help please?

At initial bootup I get a message telling me the CMOS checksum is invalid with an explanation of a '500bioserror'.

The only way round this is to go through the 'forgotten PIN route' and put the password in and wait for a Microsoft code to access the PC.

I have replaced the BIOS battery and reset all settings in the BIOS but the explanation in the error message tells me to reload the BIOS.

I cannot find any BIOS software forthe above PC (All-in-One PC 24-df1000i (1W762AV)) at all - only for the smaller screen versions.

Can somebody please help?

Thanks

Hi @J-1234,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding CMOS Checksum Error and updating BIOS on your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

CMOS checksum errors typically suggest a problem with the BIOS settings or the CMOS battery, which you've already replaced. To resolve the issue, you may need to update or reload the BIOS. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to update the BIOS for your HP All-in-One PC 24-df1000i:

Download the Latest BIOS Update:

  • Visit the HP Support website: HP Support.
  • Enter the model number (24-df1000i) in the search bar.
  • Look for the BIOS update specific to your model and download the latest version.

Prepare a USB Flash Drive:

  • Ensure the USB flash drive is formatted to FAT32.
  • Copy the BIOS update file you downloaded onto the USB flash drive.

BIOS Update Procedure:

  • Turn off your HP All-in-One PC.
  • Insert the USB flash drive containing the BIOS update file.
  • Turn on the PC and immediately press the ESC key repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.
  • Press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup.
  • Navigate to the BIOS update section, often labeled "Firmware Management" or "BIOS Management."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the BIOS using the file on the USB flash drive.

Restore Default BIOS Settings:

  • After the BIOS update completes, you may need to restore the default BIOS settings.
  • Access the BIOS Setup again (ESC > F10) and find the option to "Load Defaults" or "Restore Default Settings."
  • Save the changes and exit.

Verification:

  • Once the BIOS update is finished, restart your PC and see if the CMOS checksum error is resolved.
  • It’s advisable to reset the date and time after updating the BIOS as well.

I hope this helps.
