I've seen where a BIOS update is only for Windows Vista or Windows 7 but the computer already has Windows 10 on it.

Is it possible to update the BIOS by booting to Windows 7 PE or Windows Vista PE on a USB flashdrive then updating the BIOS?

Hi @mdbeing

This is a interesting question.

I don't see any Vista BIOS updates or W7 BIOS updates offered by HP for your PC at this Site.

And no W10 BIOS updates are available. You have no BIOS updates to try in WinPE.

Check WinPE features at this Site.

I have used Hiren's W10 bootable USB recovery media based on WinPE to modify UEFI firmware on some PCs by adding Aptio V AMI Firmware Update Utility to the USB drive.

Hiren's provides a portable W10 operating system on a USB flash drive that can access the PC's internal drives and modify the BIOS with the required software added to the Hiren's USB drive.

I use Hiren's under Ventoy.

I couldn't find a BIOS app in there.

Which one did you use?

I was looking but not seeing that you added an app.

Hi @mdbeing

I added Aptio V AMI Firmware Update Utility to Hiren's.

Copied AFUWINGUIX64,exe and the BIOS file to the same location on the Hiren's USB media. It's been a while. I think I put this stuff in the Hiren's program folder.

However, since HP is not offering BIOS updates for your MB I would use caution if you are using a BIOS file from an unknown source.

Hi, @mdbeing

That model series has been retired by HP since it is more than 10 years old, which is why there aren't any drivers showing up.

Actually, I'm surprised the support page hasn't been taken down yet, or it has escaped detection from whatever they use to retire support sites.

This reputable 3rd party website has the BIOS update you need for your PC:

I just needed to know if I come into that situation on another PC. I'm sure my BIOS is as new as it's going to get.

Thank You.
