HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-0000i (3Y3Q8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I am trying to install a new CPU into my HP BlizzardU Z690 motherboard. I want to install an I5 13600K, (currently have a I5 12400). When I installed the new CPU the computer failed to boot, only booting when I installed the old CPU. Will a BIOS update fix this issue and allow the new CPU to run. I haven't received clarity on this from the internet if a BIOS update will solve my issue and allow the computer to boot with the new CPU.

Thank You!!

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Check you MB SSID in HP System Information.

I'm thinking your PC's MB is the Akali, MB SSID 89B4. This MB does not support Intel "K" CPUs.

Th BlizzardU MB , MB SSID 894B would support 125 watt TDP CPUs.

Both MBs support the i5-12400.

Thank you! Where can I find the MB SSID?

My pleasure.

Check this HP Document on using HP System Information.

This HP App, installed on every HP PC ,will provide the four character system board ID and other useful info.

The new Intel CPU should work using the factory BIOS if your PC has the BlizzardU MB.

But, you will probably have to upgrade the CPU cooler to run an Intel "K" CPU.

@Bill_To,

Btw, the OP's HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-0000i (3Y3Q8AV) is indeed fitted with the BlizzardU motherboard (SSID: 894B) and is compatible with all "K" processors, as you can see here amongst "HP System ENVY Desktop TE02-0xxx" Users: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-ENVY-Desktop-TE02-0xxx/264681, but this system is ONLY compatible with Intel Core 12th gen processors.

Greetings @NonSequitur777

I found a Forum thread showing an Akali MB in this PC. I didn't reference the link.

I can't find the Forum thread. I should have linked the Forum thread in my previous response.

HP's: MB and PC spec search results are very depressing. I understand why @old_geekster  checked out.

I missed the 12th gen thing. I'm having a bad hair day! I swear I saw 13th gen compatibility.

@Bill_To,

No worries, assisting HP users is a community effort anyway.

Yes, depressing is the word: too often my own research in HP's proverbial data-nooks and crannies only yields abandoned spiderwebs and phantasms.

At the very least we should give HP credit for providing ample brain-exercises to keep the old noggin' spinning.

Kind Regards,
