Hello,
I own an HP Pavilion P7-1019 (Serial: >Do not include the product serial number or any private information.<
, Product: QP751AA#ABC).

I attempted to upgrade the CPU from an Intel Pentium G620 to an Intel Core i7-2600. After installing the i7, the system became inoperative — it no longer boots and there is no BIOS screen.

I reinstalled the original G620, but the PC remains unresponsive. After several tests and checks, it appears that the BIOS may have been corrupted during the CPU upgrade attempt.

I now need to install BIOS version 7.16 for the P7-1019 using a USB recovery method. My main issue is that I cannot find BIOS 7.16 anywhere, since HP’s support pages indicate that this model is discontinued and no longer supported.

At this point, my PC is essentially a paperweight.

Could someone please advise me where I can obtain the correct BIOS file, or share a reliable source for BIOS 7.16 for the P7-1019?

Thank you in advance for your help.

@Pmarto,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your system bricked because the original BIOS did not support the i7-2600 microcode, which caused BIOS corruption during the CPU swap. Reinstalling the G620 will not fix this -a so-called USB BIOS crisis recovery is required.

Correct BIOS -Still on HP's FTP Server:

  • SoftPaq: SP56122

  • BIOS: 7.16 Rev.A

  • Motherboard: IPISB-CU (H61)

  • Direct HP download:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56122.html

And changing "html" to "exe" will download the sp56122.exe BIOS file:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56122.exe

(This is an official HP-hosted file.)

USB Crisis Recovery Steps (Required):

  1. Format a small USB stick as FAT32 (MBR)

  2. Run sp56122.exe on a working PC → create recovery USB

    • If manual: copy BIOS file to: USB:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New

On your dead PC, install only:

    • original Intel Pentium G620 CPU, 1 RAM stick, keyboard (no drives/GPU)

  1. Insert USB

  2. Hold Windows + B, then plug in power

  3. Hold 10–15 seconds → wait 2–5 minutes for auto recovery

After success, confirm BIOS 7.16 in Setup.

Installing the Intel Core i7-2600 (After Recovery):

  • Power off → Install i7-2600 → Clear CMOS → Load BIOS defaults → Boot

Power Warning: Most P7-1019 systems use the stock 300-watt PSU.

The i7-2600 is fine at stock, but do NOT add a high-power GPU without upgrading the PSU.

Kind Regards,

Hi, @NonSequitur777

I agree with what you wrote except for one thing...the BIOS file can only be run in Windows and a USB recovery drive cannot be created with that file.

I just ran the file and it wanted to update the BIOS on my Dell Optiplex 7020 MT PC.

Naturally, I cancelled out of the installation.

Unless a PC repair shop knows a way to work with the BIOS files inside that exe file, the motherboard would need to be replaced.

I re-downloaded the file and used the free 7-Zip file utility to extract the file into its folder and the only file that I see that might be able to be worked wit is a file labeled CAR_7.16_Signed.ROM which is a bit over 4 MB in size.

I would have absolutely no clue what can be done with that file, if anything.

@Paul_Tikkanen, the .ROM file in your response would, most likely, be the file that's needed to flash @Pmarto's PC.

Flashing the BIOS might be accomplished by creating a Hiren's Rescue USB stick and using the Aptio V AMI Firmware Update Utility.

Check this HP Forum Link which has a Forum Link to the original Forum Thread which describes a way to flash the BIOS outside of the OS.

But, the Aptio Utility will not work if the PC is DOA.

If the PC is DOA a local PC Tech might be able to flash the PC's BIOS using a Serial ISP Programmer and the .ROM file in your response.

@Paul_Tikkanen

I just checked the Aptio link in my response.

The download site in the previous link is kaput.

The new Aptio V site is Here. I can't find a download option at the new AMI site.

There is a link to GitHub at AMI but I'm not sure if the link provides the Aptio V Utility.

I guess @Pmarto will need a local PC Tech to flash the BIOS.

HI! Thank you very much for your answer.

I have one question : The SP56122 does not give me the option to intall on a USB Stick, it actually warn me that it will update de the bios on the PC it is running to create the stick .

From there is it not clear how to create the stick itself and not install it onm me actual PC.

Anything I mist ?

You're very welcome.

The file is not going to create a USB BIOS recovery drive.

It is going to try and update the BIOS on the PC you are running the file on as I posted yesterday.

Cancel out of the update (unless you want to risk wrecking the PC you are running the file on) and you have already been informed what your options are as far as recovering the BIOS on your P7-1019.

Me?  I would bring the PC to a repair shop and get an estimate to fix it.

Greetings @Pmarto

Your PC seems to be unresponsive.

The PC needs video out and USB function to use the AMI Aptio V Firmware Update Utility.

I concur with @Paul_Tikkanen

You need a local PC Tech.
