I am looking to update the 860-170VR with the nvidia gtx 1080 GPU. I would be updating the model that comes stock with the AMD Radeon™ R9 390X 8GB GDDR5 FH GF. Please let me know if this is ok.

Greetings,

You're good to go. But verify your PC can accommodate a 10.5 inch graphics card. HP sometimes requires manufacturers modify graphics cards specifications so they fit and work in HP towers.  A stock 390 is almost 11 inches in length.

Make sure you completely uninstall the AMD graphics drivers and software before installing the 1080. Also disable secure boot and enable legacy boot in the BIOS. I am currently running a 970 on Win 7 Pro and had to disable fast boot.

The 1080 is slightly shorter in length compared to the 390 and requires less or equivalent  power to run.

You have a 600 watt power supply and your PC has a UEFI BIOS.

I am also installing a 1080 in an Envy 810-150se.

I am waiting for EVGA to release this card. It requires 215 Watts. The other 1080's only require 180 watts.

Cheers!
