Hello,

I have had this system for a considerable amount of time, and it has always run great.  But after all of these years, I want to change the fan and implement something that is quieter.  I have had no success finding a CPU fan that will fit properly given the retaining plate on the motherboard.  Can you recommend a fan that will work?

Thank you.

@vmr907 , welcome to the forum.

Your best option is, choose a manufacturer of CPU fans, such as Noctua, and contact their Tech Support for help with finding the correct fan for your system.  This will save you time, money and frustration.  It is difficult to match current components with older computers.

Hello !

In case you want to replace the fan only, and not the radiator itself, you need three specifications:

  • is your fan speed monitored and adjusted by the motherboard through a 3 or 4 pins connector? (likely a 3 pins);
  • what is the size of your original fan, for instance 70mm heigth x 70mm large x 25mm thick; obviously, the spare part has to match with the same dimensions (except for thickness maybe; thicker is better);
  • what is the power of your original fan, typically somewhere between 0,2 and 0,5 watts; tension is always 12 volts on PC motherboards; a more powerfull fan will be able to rotate at higher speeds, at the cost of a higher noise too.

With these there main specifications, you may start to seek for a spare fan on ebay or the like, get accustomed to brands and producers' names, and will have then to choose between different bearing technologies, from the most silent to the most resilient. Picking up a new fan might be an interesting topic too. Some fan makers are innovative there.

A new CPU fan alone (without a radiator) shall not cost you more than a few bucks, shipping not included.

Regards.

What is the exact model number?  Something like HP Pavilion Elite HPE-410y.  Or HP Pavilion Elite HPE-150f.  Or the #ABA?
