HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to upgrade my HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Desktop.  It has an Hp 1495 Motherboard.  I would like to put in the best compatible CPU.  It now has a i3-2120 @ 3.30GHz, 3300MHz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Pro. I would also like to upgrade the RAM as much as possible.  It now has 4 GB of installed RAM. (2x2).  If possible, I would put in an SSD of 500GB -1 TB.   Thanks in advance.

@rookiebob , welcome to the Community.

Since the computer was released in 2011, it may be difficult to find compatible components.  Here is the "Illustrated Parts and Service Map" for it.  You should look at the sections that pertain to the components that you want to upgrade.  There is a list of the specifications of each compatible component.  I suggest using this Power Supply Calculator to determine if your PSU is powerful enough for all of the upgrades.

Hi, @rookiebob

I have two 8200 Elite CMT's.

The only difference between the PC's other than the form factor is the 8200 Elite SFF has a 240W power supply, where mine have 320W power supplies.

Your PC can support up to 4 x 8 GB of DDR3-1333 MHz memory chips and up to an i7-2600 processor.

Here is the link to the quickspecs:

HP Compaq 8200 Elite Series (kelsusit.com)

Page 11 has the memory upgrade info.

The largest memory capacity possible is 32GB using four (4) 8GB DIMMs

Pages 8 & 9 have the list of supported processors by form factor.

You can install a 500 GB or 1 TB 2.5" SSD if you want.

Crucial has compatible memory for sale.

If you want to upgrade to 16 GB, I used 4 of these in one of mine until I upped the memory to 32 GB, then I installed the 4 x 4 GB in my older HP 8000 Elite CMT.

For a graphics card, I have a Nvidia GT1030 low profile card in mine which only has a 30W power draw.

It would also work in yours if you are interested in upgrading the graphics card.

Thank you for your input.  I will study this and probably be asking more questions in the future.  I would love to save this little computer.  It is just so slow now that it is maddening.  Thanks again.

Thank you very much for your time and especially your knowledge of this computer. It looks like you have great information and I'll be buying some parts soon.  I have my other desktop completely apart as the C-Drive died and one of my laptops has an inop touch pad so I don't want to take this one apart until I have at least one backup.  But thank you.  I will be taking your advice.  It is amazing that you guys are available to pass along your knowledge.

Oh, one thing I forgot.  Would a SSD work in this older machine?

You're very welcome.

Yes, both of my HP 8200 Elites have 2.5" SATA SSD's.

They both came with the i7-2600 processor as well and mine are anything but slow.

That's why I still have 12 year old PC's actively running.

I even installed W11 on them, and if you are interested in doing that, I can give you an easy way to do it since the PC's don't meet the W11 hardware requirements established by Microsoft.

You will have to buy a 3.5" to 2.5" hard drive caddy to properly fit the 2.5" SATA SSD where the existing 3.5" drive goes now.

Here is the link to the service manual.  It is broken down into different sections for the specific form factor regarding component replacements.
