Hello community,
Product: Hp 800 G6 mini
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 (64-Bit)
Machine - HP Elitedesk 800 G6 mini (35w) i3 - 10100T
CPU - i3-10100T (35w ) ---> i5 10600 (65w ) / i7 10700 ( 65w )
I am in a dilemma and I would like to know 2 things.
I have a mini pc Hp g6 800 (Elitedesk) 35w and I would like to upgrade its processor.
1. The processor I have at the moment is an i3-10100T and I would like to replace it with an i7 - 10700 or i5 10600. I saw that between a g6 mini pc elitedesk 35w and 65w. For the 65w one, at least on the outside, the casing is perforated, while the 35w one is not.
2. If I can do this upgrade, do I need to do something else, like changing the cooler?
P.S. On the case of this mini PC, it says that it is 35w, practically the same as its processor.
Thank you in advance.

Funny you would mention if you should upgrade your CPU heatsink/cooler -and the answer would be YES.
Look, all things are possible if you are willing to spend money and time.
For example, one of my HP upgrade projects was the HP EliteDesk 800 G4 65W DM and take it way beyond the Reservation: Solved: Upgrading an HP EliteDesk 800 65W G4 Desktop Mini (DM) - HP Support Community - 8708671:
But this was an 'enthusiast' project, not everybody's cup of Joe.
Your HP EliteDesk 800 G6 35W DM has a solid top panel, because a 25-watt TDP processor doesn't generate as much heat as a 65-watt TDP processor (or in my case, an i7-8700K which is a 95-watt processor). The perforated top panel helps to dissipate heat. Also, your power supply has a lower wattage than used by the 65W models.
Anyway, what I would (strongly) recommend is to purchase an i7-10700T processor, which also has a 25-watt TDP. This would be a much better match for your 35W DM.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,

Hello,
Thanks for the INFO, I will stay with this processor for now, at the same time I wanted to know if this HP mini pc is g6, g9 if I can use it as a server, to run 24/7. I can't find any information related to this. That's basically why I bought it.
In the image you attached, what do you actually use that computer for!?
Thank you in advance.

First of all, let's check the specifics of your DM: please type in System Information in your Windows search bar, and then click on the System Information App.
Please provide the information ('Value') you will find to the right of the following system parameters:
System Model
System SKU
BaseBoard Product
What did I use the upgraded HP EliteDesk 800 G4 DM 65W for? -It was just a 'proof of concept' or 'enthusiast' (geek) project, and the goal was to create the fastest of its kind (which, incidentally, it still is to this day) -nothing more, nothing less. I played some games on it, benchmarked it, and then mothballed it.
And yes, I believe that in theory you could make a server out of your G6 DM, but I'm afraid that the 35W version doesn't have sufficient processor power (or cooling for that matter) to make that happen. But since I admittingly am not a server expert on the matter, someone else will have to provide feedback on this. In short, I would suspect that HP (low power) Minis are not suitable to be made/converted as servers.
Kind Regards,
