I'm trying to add AMD RX5500XT GPU (with 6 to 8pin power adaptor to GPU) to my HP Z440 computer. But the motherboard gives 6 long beeps and computer won't boot.  DO I need to edit BIOS to change some setting? Can anyone give some advice on this? Thanks.

@Alex_Tang,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

You shouldn't have to edit your BIOS in order to get your GPU to work.

It would be helpful if you got the most recent BIOS before you install your new card: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-z440-workstation/6978828.

Six beeps indicate a video issue. Inspect your PCIe x16 slot carefully for any damages or debris (dirt).  Blow out with compressed ("canned") air and reseat your card. Make sure that the PCIe power cable is snapped in securely.

If you could verify that the RX 5500 XT card is not defective by installing it in another PC, that would be helpful. Likewise, if you could test your PCIe 16x graphics slot with another graphics card to verify that the slot itself is not defective, would also be helpful.

[EDIT:] Make sure your PCIe x16 slot is enabled in BIOS (Advanced tab).

Kind Regards,
