The computer is about 3-ish years old and has the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB graphics card. Can I replace it with a new Radeon RX 580 8GB with out upgrading the power supply (which I think is 300w max). I use this computer for graphic design not gaming. Photoshop and Illustrator mainly.

I have a hunch that you have the 500W PSU. The fact being that the GTX1060 requires a minimum of a 400W PSU. And as for the Radeon RX 580. That card requires a 500W minimum PSU as the card draws 185W. If you have the 500W PSU then the 580 should work. The 300W would not be enough power for the 580. Have a look at the PSU and the part number and Wattage should be listed on it. Also the RX 580 requires an 8 pin power connector which you also may have. If not there are adapters for 6 pin to 8 pin available.

Thanks for the reply. The part number is 832005-001and if I am reading it right it's 300w max. The GTX1060 is a few years old so I wonder if it's power requirements might be less than new models?
The RX 850 came with pigtail so I can plug it in but it sounds like it going back to Best Buy.

Has made some valid points. So I will recap and add comments. (underlined). The PSU you listed cross-references a 300W unit. The 500W unit is a different number. x0005-001 vs 0006-003
Your 300W is not supposed to have any PCIE power plugs.
It is unlikely that you can determine the manufacturer of that GTX 1060.
NVidia has stated the GTX 1060 is a 6pin PICE plug @ 120W. That far exceeds the 75W max on the PCEIx16 graphic slot. The AMD RX 580 has an 8pin PCIE plug @185W. IHMO, you need a Corsair CX500 PSU.
