Microsoft Windows 11

I know it's been a while since you last posted but I was wondering how these machines are performing now, a few years down the line.

The work of all of you has been invaluabe to me a I upgrade my machine.  Currently I've only changed the CPU and added more RAM.  I would like to do the GPU next but that seems more daunting as there are so many options and ways of doing it.

So all in all is there anything any of you would do differently and have you all now settled on the final configuration?

@SamStars,

The HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT was an early upgrade project of mine: Solved: Upgrading HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT - HP Support Community - 8118827.  After 4 years apparently still holding the Userbenchmark #1 spot fitted with a Xeon E3-1280 v2 and an RX 6600-XT, using an MXM 3.0 to PCIe X16 interface cable & dock.

The only place that I know of to order said MXM card/dock to this day is AliExpress: MXM To PCI-e X16 Extension Cable PCI-Express Cables 50cm EGPU Adapter MXM 8x 16x Graphics Card Docki....

Pricey, yes, but worth-it if you want to get the most out of your Elite 8300 USDT!

Kind Regards,

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I shall look on AliExpress.  Is it worth bothering with any other graphics cards or do you think I should go for the same as you if I can find the parts?

@SamStars,

You are very welcome -glad to assist!

You can use any graphics card you want, as long as you pair it with a sufficiently powerful power supply.  At the time when I upgraded my HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT, the best graphics card I possessed was an RX 6600 XT, so that was the reason why I used it.  What you can do is to shop around at eBay-UK and see what you can afford.  Lately -at least here in the US, certain cards such as the GTX 1070, GTX 1080, RTX 2080, RTX 2080 Ti and such are sometimes offered at very competitive pricing.

Kind Regards,
