I want to upgrade my PC Desktop ENVY TE01-4020. I would like to know if I am able to install a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 and what PSU would I be able to use to power it.

Thanks.

Apologies for the delayed response.

The P3 cable was removed from the old PSU and has been soldered to the 650watt PSU (p/n: L36049-003) to extend its P3 cable. The Graphics Card was finally delivered and installed to my HP Envy PC and all is working well. I ended up with a RTX 4060 Ti instead after getting a good deal on it.

Thanks for the help and I hope this helps other HP Envy owners.

Thanks,

@Envy_User122,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

Your HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-4020 (7Y6Y7AA) as fitted with the RenoR motherboard (SSID: 8B3B), likely powered by a 310-watt power supply (p/n: L10875-800) or a 400-watt power supply (p/n: L69242-800) -please verify.

Ideally, a 550+ watt power supply is recommended to power an RTX 4070, but this "HP System Envy TE01-4xxx" User link suggests that people are able to power 200-watt TDP graphics cards (e.g. RTX 3060 Ti) just fine with a 500-watt power supply upgrade (p/n: L05757-800), which you can purchase online, such as via an eBay Seller: HP L05757-800 for sale | eBay.

My recommendation for an RTX 4070 would be a smaller-sized (two fan) model powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, such as this one: ASUS DUAL RTX 4070 Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thank you NonSequitur777 for responding. Yes, it is the RenoR motherboard (SSID: 8B3B) as you claimed.

I have pulled the following details from the PSU: 310-Watt (p/n: L08262-004).

Are there any other PSU over 500-watt available for this Desktop that I could install?

Thanks,

@Envy_User122,

This topic comes up frequently, and I continue to research.

So, there is a very good chance* that this 650-watt power supply with p/n: L36049-003 / L57253-003 may be compatible with your desktop.  If your desktop was mine, that is what I would definitely try. You can purchase this PSU online, such as from this eBay Seller: New For HP Envy-795-0003UR Z2 G4 800 880 PSU Power Supply 650W DPS-650AB-30A US | eBay.

This power supply is expensive to purchase via eBay, though.  There are much less expensive AliExpress purchase options, such as this one, but returns are problematic.

* Disclaimer: If it doesn't work, return and get your hard-earned money back.  However, be hopeful: the proprietary "P2" power connectors for both power supplies are identical:

Hi @Envy_User122

Let the Forum know if the 650 watt HP PSU works. If you decide to try it.

Nice @NonSequitur777 , this would be great if HP Txxx PCs can use a 650 watt PSU.

The only limiter now would be the size of the graphics card!

@NonSequitur777

I've received the 650watt PSU (p/n: L36049-003) to install into my HP Envy PC. One issue I'm currently experiencing is that the length of P3 cable is not long enough to reach it's receptacle. I was able to temporarily fixate the PSU where I could connect the cables to the motherboard and successfully turned on the PC.

I plan on cutting the P3 cable from my old PSU and solder it to the new PSU. I have the RTX 4070 ordered and I'll report back when I have it installed.

Thanks for the help.

@Envy_User122,

Excellent!

That means the "P2" cable was a match, then!
